According to the Dosbox website:
www.dosbox.com
Current DOSBox 0.74-3 released
Wednesday, June 26th, 2019
Pirates! Gold is listed as 100% (supported)
for DOSBox version: 0.74-3
Dosbox emulates an old OS, running an old installed or bundled game
Dosbox itself is not outdated, as under continual development
with new versions released when ready
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOSBox
DOSBox is a command-line program, configured either by a set of command-line arguments or by editing a plain text configuration file.
For ease of use, several graphical front ends have been developed by the user community
Dos was originally replaced by Windows 95,
released back in 1995
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-DOS
Pirates Gold! game was released around 1993
and now sold in 2022 as a download by both GOG & Steam
with Dosbox included pre-configured
(the bundled version of DOSbox is current as to when the
bundle was compiled)
If you already have the game,
dosbox is freeware, but you have to manually configure it

I remember Seven Cities of Gold. Leaving caches behind for missions and cities and whatever. Coming back to Spain, well well well, the conqueror returns... Not my fault, I bumped into a few Indians and then they became aggressive haha. Just talking about the Indian village map, as you walk around trying to locate the chief |

These were included in the Pirates (1987) Game.
Assuming they are also in Pirates Gold (1993) Game
Not included in Pirates! (2004) Game.
Famous Expedition Raid scenario
John Hawkins and the Battle of San Juan Ulua – 1569
(wherein you have a slow, but powerful galleon to command, with many ports unwilling to trade and a fleet not powerful enough to force them to comply)
Francis Drake and the Silver Train Ambush – 1573
(can you match the verve and skill Drake showed battling the Spanish Fleet at the height of their power with only two small ships?)
Piet Heyn and the Treasure Fleet – 1628
(your fleet is powerful, but the season is late and finding the treasure ships is becoming a difficult task and will take expert planning to locate and dispatch)
L’Ollonais and the Sack of Marcaibo – 1666
(an abundance of manpower but a shortage of powerful vessels make ship-to-ship battles difficult, but port sacking attractive, with the additional challenge of the fragile nature of your men’s morale)
Henry Morgan the King’s Pirate – 1671
(the dangers of having a powerful pirate fleet in both naval power and manpower in that you must keep everyone fed, content and treasure laden to succeed)
Baron de Pontis and the Last Expedition – 1697
(the munchkin scenario, in which you have a large strike force and a more than reasonable certainty to win any battle, making the only challenge how much treasure can you loot?)

Any updates on pirates! gold and "new versions" which would surely help an old game 31 years later?
I saw crown and cutlass, is downloading it free? |
