I think these were chosen poorly in the OG game. Galleons should have an advantage for sailing into the wind, since they have oars! I would guess that they could probably turn pretty well too - just tell the guys on one side of the boat to take a rest, and watch it spin like a top. Note how boring the sailing speed of Frigates is - for a wide range of angles to the wind they get the same speed. The canoes are much better, you have to fiddle with the angle to the wind very carefully to get top speed.


Don't forget that the last "07" in frigates should be "06", haha was it Mandiuscreel who got out the protractor and figured that out? Definitely a good idea for viking galleys to turn faster. I'm hesitant to make people re-learn large chunks of gameplay like that, but with changing the names of ship types anyway it works.

For playability, you're right, that's why the English channel is such a great spot to play in Europe, and why British Tangier is so helpful when you're chasing Evil Spaniards around the Gibraltar Strait.

Same reason so many East Indies games end up in a loop around the Philippines/Tonkin/Macao/Anping (or further south around the Spice Islands if you add an English port).

TBH I'm not a huge fan of stuff like GoT, PoTC, or Monkey Island, so the mod wouldn't be as complete as it could be, but it could work if someone with more expertise could review and suggest things for us - maybe room for that in a separate thread

Just thinking that a Monkey Island map might be best if you rearranged the existing islands using landscape.ini, and then jlangsdo's tools to generate the rest of the relevant files. You'd have a clean looking island like Grenada or St. Lucia representing one of the in-game islands, just in a different location so unrecognizable

Each of the games takes place on fictional islands in the Caribbean around the Golden Age of Piracy sometime between the 17th and 18th centuries.
