Something I've wondered for a long time - do the other men in the dance have faces? I assume they do, but we never get to see them in the game. |

I've never seen one - but if they did have faces - it would probably be Sid Himself - with a cheeky smirk. |

I have seen their faces!  I just couldn't get the shot in time. 
Well, just the right side of the face (turning counter-clockwise during the dance), but you have to look quick. You can see the nose and eye of the man (top left is best for looking), but (again) you got to be quick. If I do get a shot of it (they turn too quickly), I'll post here.  Sorry about re-digging this up, but I felt it was worth announcing this.

Could try some screen capture software that " Films " from when you press the commence button. - I am sure there is a lot of freeware out there that will do this - even if it leaves a water mark...  |

FINALLY! After so many years of wondering-
WONDER NO MORE
I nailed as best I could get. This is the only part of the face that is visible and the most of the face you see. It appears that Sid put a face on all his characters.

That's almost a shame. Think about how delightfully spooky it would be if our hero was dancing in a room of faceless men - so enraptured by his partner that he does not notice until too late ...

Hey there,
I use this mod and <3 it.
Already made some changes to borders etc but would also like to change the texts aswell as maybe other stuff..
As for the text, I found and unpacked 2 files, in my case:
str_deu.str
piratesopening1_deu.txt
(eng if thats your lang.)
changed basically all the text but in Pirates they either dont show at all or are reverted to the original. Tried placing them either in custom or assets directory aswell as changing the lang0.fpk.
Maybe I just messed up a character somewhere but would like advice on this. Maybe an editor?
Other changes work even thou I would like to change more f.ex. intro or several cutszenes with some graphic bug (tissue sticking out?).
Could share if it finally works and the creater doesnt bother.
Some preview of a quick change (may alter but got rid of ugly pixels first).

The intro is basically untouchable, unless you can make an entire animated video clip to replace it, but that should be the right text file
"piratesopening1_deu"; I packed my version up with the mod using the fpk tool.
There were a few more minor tweaks I would have made to some of the other cutscenes, but Pirates! is just an incredibly hard game to mod.

I use PakBuild.exe cause the links to fpk tool were down afaik. I believe there's a problem on rebuilding the fpk since i realized the new fpk is way smaller. I'm not even sure if I got the original file anymore - maybe got to reinstall. Maybe you could link me to the exact fpk tool your using or suggest options to use.
Also the opening text file seems to work - even mine - the problem got to be the str file which seems very sensitive to format. Might have changed it in notepad++ or another editor by accident. Might just redo all in WinMerge if I try again.

I didn't play much but all seems fine except for the violet tissue in some cutszenes sticking out of the pocket. I'm currently trying to get that transparent or smthg.[/quote]

Thx for the approval, I don't have a lot yet and I'm doing this mostly for myself but will release once it's decent.
btw:
I didn't play this game since the release and just found out that it still looks nice (mouse fine) with a patched directx file Width=1366 Height=768 and game settings of WindowWidth = 1024 WindowHeight = 768 on a 1920:1080 native. One could enlarge textures appropriately? Other recommendations? |

Turns out it is easy to reverse the gender of the other dancers - so the player character is facing the same direction as the women, rather than the men.
All you have to do is swap the nif files. If you have unpacked them with smp_fpk_unpack.pl, then the copies are just:
