Everytime I start a new game, it's almost always with a sloop. One time I started and the game gave me a brigantine. One other time, a brig of war. I just started a new game and this time I got a pinnace. I've been playing for , like, three years now religiously, and this "starting ship" difference has only happened these three times. So my question is:
Do you always start with a sloop and this was just a freak thing? We all know strange things sometimes happen during the game. One time I catured a French Large Frigate that was an escourt to a Spanish Treasure Gallion, and I had an attractive daughter give me a lost city map.
This is no big dilema, I was just curious...... _________________

Your initial ship varies, depending on what era and nation you choose. In 1660 you always get a sloop, but in other eras you can get a wide variety of starting ships. Here is a complete table of starting forces by era and nation.

Wherever there are two different numbers for food, the higher number applies when playing at higher difficulty levels.
This is one of several tables I've put together for my own use. I suppose I should format them all and upload them for the whole Pirates community. |

I've seen that table, or one very much like it, elsewhere. It's how I knew starting as Spanish in 1640 would net me a mail runner. The Ill Wind has been terrorizing the Spanish Main ever since! |

Yes, I have posted this table before. But it was buried several pages deep in a long thread that was mostly on a different topic, so I decided to re-post it here. |

Oh, no criticism intended. I meant to express my appreciation of the info provided. It came in handy. |
