I've heard that in the new patch it creates a "gold exploit" where if you completely eliminate all cities of a country then their remaining ships will have lots of gold on them. I tried to duplicate this last night with no luck. I chose 1600 as a Spanish pirate because the Dutch only had one city in 1600 - St. Martin and Sanu Juan is the closest non-Dutch city. Everything went smoothly - I knocked off some pirates, got promoted several times and put together an invasion force, went over and knocked off St. Martin and gave it to their enemy the English. They rewarded me with a promotion and 1100 acres of land.
I then went to an English Settlement and escorted a Mayor, hoping the Dutch sould intercept me. No luck, only Pirates so I sank them. Then I went to a Jesuit Mission and escorted Immigrants to an English city. T his time the Dutch went after me but all they had was 100 in gold. Then I went to a Dutch Settlement and all they wanted to do was send new plants to other cities in a Pinnace, so I attacked the Dutch Pinnace. It only had 500 in gold.
If there is a gold exploit, where is it? I want more money!!!!! How does this "gold exploit:" work, am I dong something wrong?

The exploit is there before the patch (I don't know if the patch fixes it).... but it seems the bug is only present in the american version of the game  I have the european (english language) version, and the bug doesn't work for me.... RupertLittlebear tested one of my save games, and got the gold, which I didn't (he has the US version)

Same exploit still works after the Patch, Only USA version, although sometimes even with this exploit, you still get the ship with under 1000. Most of them have around 20k. |

I have noticed that with the patch, there are a lot more that are less than 1000 gold.  .
