If anyone wants to make their own sail but cant really decide on what to make, there is always the option of the family Crest. It gives your fleet a more personal feel not to mention looks kinda cool. |

I've had the family coat of arms up and running for weeks. I like it best on the sloops. If I was home, I would post a screen shot but I am at work. Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend. |

Must have a government job 'eh Niedzwiedz?
Not a flame just couldn't resist. I DO have a government job so I know.
I can't find a family coat of arms for me _________________ "You can't fight in here!! This is the war room!" - Dr. Strangelove

Rock you are absolutely right
Try www.houseofnames.com. I've looked at several sights and I probably like this one as much as anything. Good luck with your search. |

If you give me your last name I can find it for you. I've collected pictures of Family Crests for years and have a database set up. If your name has orgins anywhere in europe or Asia I will probably have it. If its a common name though like "Jones" or "Smith" It would be helpful if you gave nationality as well since there are about 25 Different Crests for each of those names. |

WOW! Cool site! I found it but it's not letting me grab the picture. Weird. I've never seen a graphic I couldn't download. Actually it downloads with a .gif extension but it's blank in both My documents (thumbnail) and in Paint Shop Pro. I can't even "save target as"... Shame cause it's a great size for a sail too.
Hey Saranis, thanks for the offer. It's Yancey and English. _________________ "You can't fight in here!! This is the war room!" - Dr. Strangelove

Just searched a few family crest sites. 17 bucks for a jpg image???? GAWD!! Money grubbing sons a @%#&*$
HA! did a screen capture of the page and now I just have to edit the crest out of it!
Interesting though... I saw 3 different ones on different sites for my name and as you can see above it's not that common. Makes me wonder how "authentic" they are.
Saranis, I'd still like to see what you come up with. Might as well use the coolest one. _________________ "You can't fight in here!! This is the war room!" - Dr. Strangelove

okay ROck, give me a day or two. Yancey doesnt sound like too common a name so I shouldnt run into the problem of having too many of the same name. |

Hmmmm, this is the one I have in my Database.
On further investigation, Yancey is believed to have Originated in America. Before that they were of the Welsh Nanney royal family. Which is believed to have been Nannau. Which is believed to have originated in Ireland as McNaney and shortened upon imigrating to Wales.
Ironicaly the name Yancey means "Englishman"
The one posted above seems to be the most commonly used Yancey Crest. I am having trouble tracking down the Nanney or McNaney ones.
However here is a description of the Nanney Crest.
"On a gold shield, a lion in blue facing to the left, rampant, no motto or crest, showing evidence of great age."
Reading the description this leads me to believe the Nanney Crest is Identical to the Yancey one posted.
There are no "authentic" crests because one was never registered with an heraldic registery.
Here is more information regarding the orgins.

Cool. Thanks Saranis.
That's the best one I found too. It's already on my sails.
On a side note my relatives have always told me that we were Irish. So your info more or less confirms it. _________________ "You can't fight in here!! This is the war room!" - Dr. Strangelove

Rock, they have it set up so there is a transparent pic taking up space, and the actual image is the background in the cell. You will have to 'view source' and look for the filename.
The URL will be in the form:
http://www.houseofnames.com/i/family-crest/coas/zoom/#####-family-crest-English.gif the ##### is the number of your actual crest.
