Ahoy Pirates! fans,
I am Lothaireman, the author of the Pirates HD mod on Nexusmods, which can be found right there ( https://www.nexusmods.com/sidmeierspirates/mods/3 ).
I had a report that my mod does not load for some users.
I think it may have to do with file date, but not sure.
Can any of you shed light on this ?
I can not currently try for myself.
Thanks in advance ! |

If it works on some pc’s and not others then I would recommend those who are having trouble to check their configuration.ini. They might have the settings to high to handle your mod on their pc. |

Hello, welcome to Hooked on Pirates.
Saying "It doesn't work" isn't particularly useful for troubleshooting.
Is there any commonality to those who report the problem?
What version of the game are they using (CD, DVD, steam, pirated torrent)?
What are the symptoms (such as: the game crashes; there is no difference from regular dds files).
What version of Windows are they using?
I don't think my monitor is HD, but I went to nexus to check the mod.
It appears that there are a number of HD mods (not just one).
I decided to download the sails mod to test it, but nexus requires me to sign up to download.
If you put the sail mod on a site that doesn't require me to join I'll be happy to test it.
Very respectfully,
fleetp |

Thank you for the welcoming and the replies mates.
People did not gave much details about their install.
I downloaded and installed again the game via GoG to try it for myself, and it does not load for me either. I did try to tweak the ini, as you suggested Pirate.
My first install (when I made and tested the mod) was with GoG too.
The mod simply does not load: The texture stay the same as the original.
There are multiple files as I made one for each "category" of textures.
The more noticeable is the "Characters HD" package. Sails are not that visible to be honest, .
Those make the textures less pixelated.
Here a link for two of the files:
The most important:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/3o75hs4oizutqt6/HD_Characters-3-.7z/file
The one you asked:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ung4wikg841q254/HD_Sails_and_Flags-3-.7z/file |

Well I'll say they are definitely modified sure enough. Could be that they are modified a bit to much. I'm thinking a 512* 512 texture going to 2048*2048 especially as many of them you have could cause problems. I mean they ain't going to make the nif bigger so chances are the game is having trouble shrinking all these files to fit and maybe it ain't a happening. |

Okay, I played around with the flags in the sails and flags file. Placing the sails_flags.fpk file in the custom folder didn't change anything when I tried to select a custom flag for my pirate ship. . When I used pakbuild to unpack the sails_flags to the individual dds files and placed the dds files in the custom folder I was able to select a custom flag for my ship.
The same thing happens with the sails.
Oh, when I used the systems settings in the game to choose custom sails and flags, neither the full sail nor flag appears in the selection screen. Only a part of the sail or flag appears, but it looks fine in game.
My guess is that the fpk file became corrupted somehow.
I'm using the 2CD version of the game on a 64 bit Windows 7 computer.
I hope this information helps you.
Very respectfully,

When I tried it first in game, some textures where indeed blown on the models, so I excluded them of the resizing. Maybe some model don't take texture resolution in account with their UV mapping. The problematic files were mostly interface and some backgrounds.
However, characters, interiors, some background and other texture worked fine before.
It did not cross my mind that the fpk may had been corrupted.
I think I may had used loose files in custom when testing, for easy troubleshooting and deleting. I will try to unpack the rest to see if it works after that.
Thank you for the help guys. |

If my failing memory serves last time I tried to use PAKbuild to ... build a PAK it didn't work. Like you I always unpack all my files for both gameplay and modding purposes. Just curious if Pirate, fleetp, Cap Teaque etc also run with unpacked files? |

I don’t pack anything. I normally make a folder inside the assets folder and drop my modified textures etc. in it and go. |

For mods I run the game using unpacked files. |
