Okay, I'm going to try to do this.
As an Army colonel once told me when I was given a huge assignment, "Eat the elephant one bite at a time." With that in mind I'll try to do this in steps. The first steps will be be change Puerto Principe to Paramaribo, then make it a Dutch city, and make it seaport. If that works I'll see if I can relocate it to south of Trinidad.

Pirate has given advice on how to do most of the first steps (shown in the next post).

Okay lets start with Antigua. open the exe with a hex editer and serch for this string.

The Nationality i will use BB to show location

natinilty list is 00 for Spanish
01 for England
02 for Franch
03 for Dutch
04 for Pirate

You can see BB is 01 in the first string. That tells me it belongs to England. want it Ducth the change it to 03.

use that string for guidance for the other cities as the nationalities will be in the same location.


another thing in case you want to make the city open to all eras is as
also editable

change the that to 11 11 01 00


this is what Antigua looks like if i change her to France and open up all eras.

So I hunted for the line that began
f9 00 00 00 a3 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 and changed the 13th pair of character from 00 (Spanish) to 03 (Dutch). Now to see if this worked.


EDIT: When I started a previously saved game Puerto Principe was still Spanish. Evil or Very Mad
When I started a new game it was Dutch. Smile

Now I'll try to give Puerto Principe the 'shipyard' functions. I'll use the hex editor, find the string
f9 00 00 00 a3 00 00 00 00 80 00 00, and change the 80 to 00.

Bloody brilliant. This is using a hex editor on the exe?

Other candidates for "relocation" include Bermuda (I could adjust the navigation map to include an island, but it wouldn't show on the in-game map), Biloxi, and Belize. There may be others that don't start with B, but I can't think of any!

Yes. So far I've been using a hex editor on the exe file.

Regarding Bermuda, if you sail far enough north, you will see an island on-screen, but you can't reach it. Crying or Very sad

Next is changing the city name from Puerto Principe to Paramaribo. This step does not require modding the exe file. Wink

Find the lang0.fpk file. Copy it to a separate folder. Use one of the fpk unpacker programs (fpkpacker.exe or pakbuild.exe) to extract the citynames_enu.txt file.

Open the citynames_enu.txt file in a text editor program. Search for Puerto Principe and change it to Paramaribo. Save the citynames_enu.txt file and copy it into the Custom folder in the folder named Sid Meier's Pirates!

Next comes the really hard part, figuring out how to move the city so it will be south of Trinidad. Reading

It's probably determined in the cityloc.dta file which unfortunately seems to be a hex file. Lost

Probably and you will need location points wherever you move it. You would have to understand where your located out now and understand where your going. It’s math involved probably complicated be my guess but I’ve never done it.

Might the East Indies mod help in terms of looking at city data to establish "coordinates" of sort?

As for the unreachable island, just having the city Bermuda floating there would be a good compromise - like with Par'bo, you just use your imagination re: scale.

I suppose Charles Town (Charleston), SC could occupy a far-north spot too, it was founded in 1670.

Both the mod and the Caribbean original have city location files. A hex editor would be needed to open them and you would need to be able to read or understand it. The reason I can read the cities in the executable is because Jingy taught me or otherwise I wouldn’t know but as far as moving cities it probably needs the city loc and the location file updated as there most be land to have a city. Now Fleet might could pull this off and hopefully he does but I’m saying looks hard to me but I’m kinda dumb anyway or I wouldn’t be here where I’m at if I only had a brain.

Adam Mill ,Jingy Boy Blue and Dog Cigar are three of the best at modding the game. Dog Cigar was a MAC guy though that’s why he didn’t contribute much for us windows folks but he was good.

Parksbanyon is another highly intelligent fellow you might want to pm. I remember he wanted to team up and build a new game but he didn’t know how to build a new map but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t help with this. He probably has more experience with Jings save game editor than anybody other than the man himself. Adam Mill has a website and his Challenge Pack can be gotten from there. Probably be a good way to get his attention by leaving a message there if he doesn’t respond by PM. Fleetp might be able to do it after some trail and error unless he is super lucky from the start. He has worked on nifs before so that takes a working brain. All those guys have the smarts but I don’t know if all of them have much or if any interest in the game anymore.
